“With pure grit and tenacity, Amany Youssef has built her way up to start her own company, AY Luxury Designs, a luxury design company offering patios, pergolas, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, screens, gazebos, driveways and more.
It hasn’t always been easy for Amany, who has fought her way to become a successful entrepreneur and business woman at only 25 years old. Forced to leave Beirut, Lebanon as a child after a bomb struck the area where they lived, Amany came to the United States with her family, in fear of their safety, with their last $500 and a few belongings.
“At 7 years old I remember driving from the airport and seeing all the pretty houses with their white picket fences,” says Amany. “That day my mother told me it was her dream, and my fathers promise, that we would end up with a house like that someday. Unfortunately, my mother began to experience health issues and it became clear to me that my family’s financial future depended on me. I wasn’t going to let anything stand in my way.”
Amany applied to the University of Florida at age 17 and was put on a waitlist. “That broke me to pieces,” she says. The next morning, she headed to admissions to plead her case every day for a week. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. Eventually she was awarded acceptance in the fall. With rising expenses, she opened her first real company, a hot dog business, to pay for her tuition and send money home. She sold it for twice what she invested and now at the age of 25 has successfully embarked on her second business.
